(In)visible exhibition

The (In)visible exhibition is an opportunity to show how disability informs part of the rich tapestry of human experience. A sense of shared identity and the face is used to re-imagine the representation of disability and create a positive, vibrant and visible presence. The work, in soft and hard sculpture, aims to promote dialogue about the presence of disability in our lives and to create a positive alternative to the widespread negative images and understandings of what it means to live with disability; we are more than a medical diagnosis. The (In)Visible exhibition is presented by IGNITE artists and curated by Penny Pollard from the Belconnen Arts Centre.

IGNITE: Alternative Arts Academy is an engaged, contemporary and innovative arts collective for artists with lived experience of disability, mental health issues and the d/Deaf and HOH (Hard of Hearing). IGNITE aims to support and nurture the aspirations of our artists and to assist in broadening experience, skills and networks. IGNITE works to improve access and opportunities for this creative collective to engage in all areas of arts and culture, including employment, education and leadership roles.

Exhibition runs: 29 November 2019 – 9 February 2020

Opening night: 6pm, Friday 29 November 2019
