By plane

The following domestic airlines fly to and from Canberra Airport (CBR).

Please note: Not all airlines fly from all cities. We recommend you book your flights as early as possible.

Getting to and from the airport

The Canberra Airport is located 7 km from Canberra Centre (approximately 7-minutes drive).

Public transport

Transport Canberra runs ACTION Bus route 3 with regular services between the Canberra Airport terminal through to the City interchange, Belconnen interchange, Cohen St interchange to Spence Terminus, seven days a week including public holidays. Please view the Route 3 timetable and route map on the Transport Canberra website.

Cash payment can be made on buses at time of travel or tickets can be purchased with cash at a Ticket Vending Machine located at major bus and light rail stations.

Taxi

Taxis cost around $23-$26 to Canberra Centre (as estimated in 2018). Prices will vary depending on your destination. The taxi rank is located centrally on the ground floor of the terminal building, just a short walk from the baggage carousels in the Arrivals Hall. The taxi rank is fully undercover and the waiting area is indoors.

In the unlikely event that you find yourself at the airport with no taxis in sight, please visit the customer service office and a member of the team will organise one for you.

Canberra Airport has several car rental companies located on the arrivals (lower) level of the roadway just outside the terminal.

By train

Sydney to Canberra train

Canberra has a direct rail service from Sydney. Departing from Sydney Central Station, the daily service travels to Canberra via the Southern Highlands, Goulburn and Bungendore. Terminating at the Canberra Railway Station in Kingston, the trip takes four-and-a-half hours. You can check timetables and book online through the NSW Trainlink website.

Melbourne to Canberra train

While there is no direct Canberra to Melbourne rail service, it’s possible to catch the train to Albury and then be transferred by coach. You can find timetables and booking information from the V/Line website for Canberra – Melbourne (via Albury) route. Alternately, catch the Melbourne to Sydney train and transfer to the Canberra train from the Goulburn railway station.

By bus
