Public transport

Canberra has an extensive public transport system. Transport Canberra (TC) operates the public bus and light rail network, and is a convenient and cost-effective way for you to get around Canberra. You can also take advantage of Canberra’s taxi cabs and ride-sharing services.

Cash payment can be made on buses at time of travel or tickets can be purchased with cash at a Ticket Vending Machine located at major bus and light rail stations. You can also purchase a MyWay card to tap on and off public transport. You can find out more about tickets and MyWay options and prices here.

Selected TC Buses offer bike racks and wheelchair access. We recommend also using their Journey Planner option to find transport between your hotel and different venues. The Journey Planner option allows you to choose routes with the least walking, wheelchair accessible and/or having the fewest changes. You can also speak to an operator on 13 17 10 to help you plan your journey.

Canberra operates several taxi services. Here are the most popular:

Hire vehicles

Canberra has several car rental companies. The ones listed below all have pick-up options at the Canberra Airport.
