The Last Dance with the Last Avant Garde

Location: Ainslie Arts Centre, Main Hall (Elouera Street, Braddon, ACT, 2612)

Date: Tuesday 3 December (Day 3)

Time: 10am – 3pm (lunch is provided)

Participants: There is a limit of 15 participants for this workshop, not including carers/companions/support-workers. No dance experience necessary. Anyone is welcome, but priority will be given to disabled people. Please register early to avoid disappointment.

Last Dance with the Last Avant Garde: Come and have a big dance up session, and hear the findings from the Last Avant Garde’s Australia-wide performance workshops research with Deaf and disabled artists.

Led by Alstonville Dance Studio’s Suzanne Whiteman (NSW), this workshop includes improvisation, creation and FUN, focusing on artists’ present aspirations and interests as well as pride and solidarity. Please wear casual clothes. We will be asking: what do Deaf and disabled performing artists WANT right now?

About Suzanne Whiteman

Suzanne Whiteman has been a dancer/choreographer since she was a child. Suzanne nurtures an inclusive integrated dance studio outside of the arts/dance bubble. She directs one of the few non-funded disabilities dance collectives, Alstonville Dance Studio. Suzanne takes great joy in facilitating opportunities to allow inclusive access to the dance and creative worlds for all ages and abilities.

About the Last Avant Garde

The Last Avant Garde research group comprises Kath Duncan (chair), Dr Eddie Paterson, Sarah Austin and Madeleine Little.
